What to Expect

What should I expect when I visit?

You should expect to be greeted warmly and hospitably.

At services you will hear the prayers of God's people, the Holy Scriptures read aloud, and the preaching of Christ and Him crucified. The reconciling work of Jesus on the cross to save humanity from their sin and separation from God is our constant message. If you are baptized and believe in the real presence of Jesus within the bread and wine, you are invited to receive the sacrament of Holy Communion.

Finally, when you join us in worship, you should expect to be sent with the peace of God.

What do we believe?

We believe that all humanity has fallen short of the glory of God and, as a result, lives in separation from God. We believe that God came in the flesh, in the person of Jesus of Nazareth, as the long-awaited Messiah of Israel, as foretold in the Old Testament. We believe that Jesus lived a sinless life and offered Himself as the perfect and final sacrifice for all humanity, reconciling them to God. We believe that all those who trust this message of good news are justified in the sight of God and clothed with the perfect robes of righteousness of Jesus Christ.

We also believe we cannot by our own power, effort, or understanding believe in this Jesus or come to him, but that the Holy Spirit comes to us to call us through the Gospel, to enlighten us with His gifts, and to gather us into the community of God's people set apart to be witnesses of this truth in Jesus Christ.

We also believe, teach and confess that the prophetic and apostolic writings of the Old and New Testaments are the only rule and norm according by which all teachings and teachers alike must be appraised and judged. We hold that the means of God's grace are the Word, Holy Baptism, and Holy Communion. We confess our faith through the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed and the Athanasian Creed. Finally, we believe the historic and classical confessions of the Lutheran Church, called the Book of Concord, are a faithful and reliable witness to the Bible and the Christian faith.

Questions about God and spirituality?

We recognize and hope that many people have questions on these topics. The ability to respond to an unlimited number of possible questions on a website is daunting to say the least. What we can do, however, is assure you this is normal and encourage you to seek out some answers for your consideration. Our pastor is available to all people and invites you to chat with him regarding your questions. You may arrange such a conversation by calling 541-567-6471.
